Alia is a PhD student at CU Boulder, researching black carbon in the Himalaya and Antarctica. She is very excited to join the field team! After traveling in the high mountains of the Himalaya during her undergrad years, she discovered a love and passion for cold environment fieldwork. In May 2010 she began a Masters at CU. During that time she completed fieldwork in both the Arctic and Antarctic. She is now in the first semester of her PhD. Dissertation specific research interests include local and long-range transport of contaminants and pollutants, and impacts on water quality and the hydrological cycle. She is interested in climate impacts on water quality in polar and alpine areas, as well as the social and human impacts of climate change. Like many researchers in the polar sciences, Alia loves the great outdoors and is an avid snowboarder, hiker, backpacker, and also enjoys rock and ice climbing.
